Portugal to approve resolution against creation of EU army

07-12-2017

The Portuguese government is due today to approve a resolution to make it clear that Portugal does not support the creation of a European army.

The decision was reiterated by Prime Minister António Costa after being questioned in Parliament by MPs.

He added that Portugal had initially worked to support EU policies on the matter, but have decided against backing a European Army and that it is not an alternative to NATO.
