24-hour train strike on Monday, Tuesday

A 24-hour strike by train drivers is to be staged between noon today and noon tomorrow.

The Portuguese arbitration tribunal has ruled that the action does not justify any minimum services apart from those defined in the general labour law.

The arbitrators said that in the case of freight trains, only the transport of ammonia and other dangerous or perishable materials had to be ensured.

The train drivers are striking for social and labour rights and better safety for trains.
