Southern California has been struck by its strongest earthquake in two decades, causing damage and fires according to BBC.
The epicentre of the 6.4 magnitude tremor was near the city of Ridgecrest, which is about 240 km north-east of Los Angeles. Firefighters have been providing medical assistance and dealing with fires in and around the city.
People from the Mojave Desert to the Pacific coast reported feeling the quake, which hit as the US celebrated Independence Day.
