Fire warnings remain in place for the Algarve
Five councils in the Algarve have been placed on maximum fire alert due to prevailing weather conditions.
Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, Tavira, Castro Marim and Alcoutim, are all on the highest level of alert, while 17 other areas, located in the Algarve and the southern Alentejo, have been issued with the second highest level of readiness by the Portuguese Met Office.
The advisory is issued based on the weather conditions experienced in the preceding 24 hours, with temperatures expected to climb to around 35 degrees Celsius across most of southern Portugal during the course of today.
