More than 30 major world textile groups have voluntarily signed an agreement to continue to produce clothing but more sustainably and to protect the environment, which has been received with skepticism from various NGOs.

 

The sector is currently responsible for 20% of wastewater discharges and 10% of CO2 emissions worldwide.

 

On the report, companies want to “mitigate climate change, adapt to the present day and protect the oceans as well as 100% renewable energy in factories by 2030 and eliminate single-use plastic by that date”.
