New Algarve Cultural Route aims to uncover Islamic heritage
A new cultural route created in the Algarve aims to uncover the legends and myths of historic Islamic occupation of the territory.
Tourists visiting the Algarve can explore the al-Mutamid route, which spans the period of al-Andalus, named after the Iberian Peninsula in the Middle Ages.
It is co-financed by European funds and in Portugal has as partners the councils of Silves and Tavira. The project was financed with € 212,000 under the Interreg programme, and ultimately aims to span from Aljezur to Cortegana in Andalucia. It will later be extended from Lisbon to Seville.
