President hails people ‘without historical complexes’ on Portugal Day

Portugal’s president on Monday in an address to mark Portugal Day noted that the country is barely three decades short of celebrating its 900th anniversary as an independent nation, arguing that its people are resilient and have no issues in relation to their past.

According to de Sousa, Portugal’s people remember their country’s past without any complexes – a message that was meant for some domestic critics of official interpretations of history, particularly in relation to the colonial period.
