President to call in parties with seats in parliament on choice of PM

Portugal’s president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will today held a series of audiences with parties with seats in parliament – of which there are at least 10 – with a view to informing his choice of prime minister following Sunday’s general election.

The Socialist Party won Sunday’s legislative election, but without absolute majority, followed by the Social Democrats, Left Bloc, Communist, People’s Party and the PAN Party. Three parties – the Liberal Initiative, Chega and Livre each saw one MP elected for the first time in these elections.
