Socialists win in Portugal
The ruling Socialist Party led by Prime Minister António Costa received the most votes in the European elections staged yesterday.
With former Transport Minister Pedro Marques Guedes headlining the Socialists, the party have received ten seats in EU Parliament after winning over 32 percent of the vote. The Social Democrats claimed six seats, while the Left Bloc are set to have two MEPs.
The remaining three seats allocated to Portugal will be shared among the Communists, the rightist CDS-PP and PAN for People, Animals and Nature, who won their first seat ever in Strasbourg.
