Summer will officially begin in Portugal at 3.54 this afternoon, which is when the sun’s rays fall perpendicularly on the earth’s Tropic of Cancer.
The summer solstice takes place at the same across the northern hemisphere and marks the longest day of the year, whereas in the southern hemisphere, it is the shortest.
After tomorrow, the nights will begin to close in as the planet rotates with the northern hemisphere titling away further from the sun.
