Zero defends aviation fuel tax in Portugal to reduce emissions

Environmental association Zero has today criticised the tax exemptions of the aviation sector in Portugal, according to Lusa.

The association said a fuel tax would reduce traffic and emissions by 11 percent and provide €500 million in annual revenue.

Speaking to Lusa News Agency Francisco Ferreira, president of Zero, said that while “aviation emissions increased seven percent in Portugal in the last year”, in a European context, Portugal imposes “the fewest taxes on aviation”, despite being one of the fastest-growing markets.
